\"\u0391\u03c0\u03cc\u03c3\u03c4\u03bf\u03bb\u03bf\u03c2<\/a>Interventional cardiology<\/strong> is a branch of cardiology that deals with operations on the heart that are done through catheters, without surgery. Today, the most common procedure is angioplasty of the coronary arteries or “balloon dilatation”. Years of research have paid off and now interventional cardiology can treat, apart from chronic coronary artery disease, a wide range of cardiac diseases. For example, we could mention primary angioplasty with suction of thrombus<\/strong> in acute myocardial infarction, renal artery denervation<\/strong> in patients with “resistant” hypertension, placing a special device in the left atrium of the heart<\/strong> for the prevention of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation, replacement of the aortic valve through catheters<\/strong> in patients with aortic valve stenosis, and a large number of interventions in patients with congenital heart disease<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I had the opportunity to train in Holland and in Canada over the whole range of modern interventional cardiology procedures. The avoidance of surgery and shorter hospital is certainly to the benefit of the patient. Precondition for the success is the excellent education, teamwork and strict adherence to international standards of care and ethics<\/strong>. In this website, I summarize in simple words the interventions we can perform, and the latest developments in the field of interventional cardiology.<\/p>\n
